"There is music of the soul in the soil of Bihar- ‘Sujit Kr Ojha' is a true example of that. Born in 1977, Sujit naturally took to music at the age of eight. Since then he started appearing on stage in several performances of folk music. After being initiated into folk music by his first guru and grandfather Shri Bhagwan ji Ojha, he subsequently started learning classical music from Shri Om Prakash Rai, Pt. Ramakant Tiwari(Kanta Guru ji) and Shri Dharampal. Since last 15 years, he has been under the tutelage of renowned vocalist and Principal of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya New Delhi, Padmashri Pandit Madhup Mudgal.
Deeply entrenched in the Gwalior gharana of Hindustani classical traditional music, Sujit has immersed himself in the stream of devotional and folk music.
He composes his own music for all the couplets and has a unique style of padavali gaayan, which brings out the ethos and the emotions behind them. All his performances imbibe the intricacies of Khayal gayaki and his repertoire showcase traditional and rare compositions of different seasons and festivals like Holi, Basant, Saavan, Krishna/ Ram Janamotsav and Shivratri.
Performing in India and abroad like USA, Europe and Gulf countries for more than 18 years, Sujit Ojha has numerous awards and honors to his credit like ‘ARYA RATNA' award in the year 1999, BABA ALLAUDDIN KHAN AWARD in 2003 and ‘SANGEET SADHAK' SAMMAN in 2011, and has won applause from connoisseurs and critics alike.
Besides being a part of the famous Gandharva choir, he is also a faculty member at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya New Delhi, of Hindustani classical vocal music since year 2000. He is also a member of the Governing Body, Delhi University from the year 2016. Sujit has also been performing regularly in Delhi Vidhan Sabha since last 12 years.
He has been featured in various programmes like Subah Savere on DD-I and others on DD-Bharati and ETV and is also a grand jury member for the Mirchi Music Awards of Radio Mirchi 98.3 Fm judging the Classical or Raag based filmi songs category for the last 8 years. As a music director he has worked with singers of great caliber from the music industry like Sadhna Sargam, Jaspinder Narula, Sawani Mudgal to name a few.
Recently he performed at India Habitat Centre and launched his own banner " Swantha Sukhaya." The concept of Swantha Sukhaya is to preserve the couplets of our old saints like Tulsidas, Surdas, Meerabai, Malukdas, Ravidas and others, which is an integral part of our heritage and culture, and unfortunately is fast disappearing from our music world.
